With networking and talking to lots of experts in the field we've singled out the following trends: (1) verticals and brands aspire to become more white-hat and thus (2) affiliate marketers are looking for other interesting verticals with great revenue. While working with gambling is great and brings profit to those dedicated to it, there is one more vertical that has great promises – CPI. If you haven’t tested this vertical (or you ever wondered how to work with it), here’s our article on everything you need to know about CPI.

What is CPI and how do you work with it?

For those of you still confused about the abbreviation, CPI is short for “Cost Per Install” – a payout model where a partner is paid for every desktop/mobile app install.

Here are some of the ways one can earn money here:

- Developers can get traffic to their apps with future monetization of the audience through subscriptions, some service delivery or display of someone else’s advertisements through ad network;

- Ad network can sell In-App traffic to media buyers (inside the app there will be pop/push notifications, videos etc.);

- Media buyers can sell leads to app developers and get additional sources of traffic and offers (for example, mVas offer convert well with In-App and push notifications).

Just to be clear, don’t think you can simply have bots installing apps for you. As with a CPL model in gambling, advertisers are not interested in registrations/installs themselves. They are more interested in how well those registrations convert into deposits (reg2dep). In CPI it is install2reg, but there can also be other target actions involved. So, most offers would have a cap to check the quality of traffic and to watch out for fraudulent activity.

What are CPI offers?

Now the market has a great variety of CPI offers to offer (yes, pun intended). Depending on the source of traffic and your personal preferences (or the network you want to work with), you can choose any of the following categories:

- Games. Mobile games are one of the main offer categories and a possible mislead attraction. For you to get a user to download the game, the creatives have to be way more interesting with brighter colors than the game itself. This approach has proved to be working and is used a lot.

- Utility. Browsers, cleaners, antiviruses, cloud storage, wallpapers, launchers and the like are the apps that users need sometimes. VPN services are now much more in demand with varying film choices and access to sites that can be accessed in the user’s own country. There are also some weird utility apps that in reality don’t always work.

- Finance and e-commerce. Offers from banks, MFOs, insurance companies, big e-commerce shops (like SHEIN or Amazon) that created their own apps and now want a bigger customer base.

There are many more offers: with language learning apps (like Babbel), e-readers, online streaming services, horoscopes, spy services and so on. The world is your oyster.

Where to find creatives?

It all depends on your chosen type of traffic and the offer itself. Let’s say we take a finance offer: BMG mobile bank app. This offer targets Brazil, so we’ll have to consult with the managers first on what types of sources convert best with it.

With pop and push notifications you can monitor SPY services to see what approaches are used by other webmasters in working with this offer.

For the sake of our example, we can choose traffic from video platforms – like TikTok or In-App prerolls. Here are some ideas where you can find videos:

- Youtube, Vimeo, advertisements on other platforms. Usually, YouTube videos are enough for you to make a short clip with a good soundtrack and some snapshots with a call for action (install the app). And put some button there. With our offer though a user will also have to open an account in the app, not just install it.

- TikTok library or hashtag search. Here are some creatives that we found in two minutes of searching:

- Motion designer. A lot of media buying teams work with designers (you can find someone on Fiverr or other freelance platforms). Give as many references as you can (using the same TikTok library, for instance) targeting the necessary GEO, try to find the creatives that will be the most relevant to the app and its theme.

One important thing:

In CPI you have to test as many creatives as possible. Seasoned media buyers recommend testing at least 5-10 unique creatives and launch up to 100 campaigns to see what works best. Out of them, there might be 5 or 7 that would really hit it off.

Traffic sources for CPI

You can basically work with any GEO and any source of traffic. You will only need to be able to send the user to the exact app in App Store or Google Play. The best way to earn money with this vertical would probably be developing own apps for In-App networks and promoting them with keywords in stores (for example, with bux).

Media buyers have quite a choice of sources: from TikTok and their analogs (like Indian Josh and Moj) to UAC and Instagram. You can also go to In-App networks or push/pop networks. The great thing about CPI is that CPI offers are mostly white-hat, so there should be no problems with moderation.

Do you work with CPI offers? What traffic do you use? Are there any other useful tips you could give fellow members?

Many people use them but from affiliate networks like ogads. What about direct promoting the apps and taking all the profits?

The affiliate network is the middle man and takes part of the profits. What about contacting the developers to promote their apps directly and taking all the profits?

An affiliate network always acts as a sort of mediator, tru. But there might be a few benefits:

1. Lots of exclusive offers in one place: you don't have to go through this whole introductory/legal/technical process with each advertiser. Moreover, there are few direct advertisers that do work with publishers directly (and they also have a difficult approval process not every publisher can go through). So it is easier for them to work with affiliate networks where they can get more publishers.

2. If you want to find interesting exclusive local advertisers, it might prove more difficult than you think. That's why, for example, our managers live in different countries and have better access to such advertisers. Most of them do not like working with foreigners, so it's possible to get a good deal with offers that are fresh and ready for affiliates to try.

3. What's more, networks usually try to facilitate all the processes and you're more likely to get the payment from the network faster than from the advertisers themselves (we know networks with Net-7). If you drive big volumes, you can have some kind of individual arrangement (we usually do this with our affiliates).

4. And one more thing: since networks provide many publishers and all of them drive big volumes, networks might negotiate better rates and better deals for all of them, if the advertiser is satisfied with the volume and quality of traffic.

You can definitely work with direct advertisers, but the process of getting them on board can be more difficult than finding a network and work through it with tons of offers.

It may be a nice method to promote ppi offers the problem its that majority of them have malware etc that peoole dont like it
this is why you have to do a thorough analysis of the brand/app to make sure it's legit. before reaching out to advertisers we usually make our own research to see if this is a potentially trustworthy advertiser
