I saw a poll on a FB group just now asking if people see an increase in rankings if they include a YouTube video on their web page.

Most people said yes...

The cynic in me says it might be because Google wants to show Google Ads.

Do you guys see ranking boosts with embedded YouTube videos?

Allegedly it increases engagement time which helps in ranking.

I refrain from using Youtube vids too much. Once at the bottom of one of my articles it had some text like 'by xyxycompany' I was like WTF is my site hacked?

Turned out xyxycompany was the uploader for the Youtube video and somehow Google decided to include that it's by them on my Google result. Was weirded out a bit.

I never actually tested this but it seems like it.

I have multiple pages with crappy content + embed doing very good.

I like to embed YouTube videos where possible (and necessary).

It increases page on-time which in turn can improve your rankings so that's a win win I guess.

There is no harm in trying.

This is my answer but it's a bit more complex.
1. It's not youtube videos but the fact that videos increase dwell time (I think that's what it's called) so when chrome sends google data, google goes "hold on, there must be something interesting there because people stay for some time".
2. I've done tiny tests and saw absolutely no benefits of having youtube videos.
3. We can speculate forever and NO, I wouldn't embed somebody else's videos on my site.

It can help indirectly for the page dwell time probably, and (even if it's not a big deal, I guess) is also directly helpful for Bing's SEO, as it focuses more on media compared to Google.

embedding a video on your webpage won't actually improve your search engine rankings as an SEO element, but it can make readers more inclined to see you as an authoritative and engaging source. You can embed more YT videos this will allow the users to spend more time on the website and likely to see some positive results.

So the main problem that i've been having with youtube videos and why I haven't included them on my projects it's because the page load time drastically increases.
What I do is: I'd have a thumbnail picture and whenever the users click on the thumbnail picture it'll bring up the youtube video to start loading (with javascript). I wish google could read or understood that if user clicks on the thumbnail picture it'll bring a youtube video for them to see.. but apparently they don't read that youtube video.

I don't risk including a youtube video iframe into a page. the exchange between load time (proven ranking factor) and youtube video (not proven) it's risky.
