Don't Follow all what they said, Believe me:
Competition = Money
Hard Competition = Tons Money
Low Competition = No Money

And you decide.

Weight loss is NOT a niche is a Sub-Market or Sub-Industry at best. It´s too damn big and broad for it to be a niche.

At least, that´s how I look at it.

These would be a perfect example of niches for me.

Check this out...

It will take you a lifetime, a shit ton of effort, and money to be able to outrank those sites.

If you have no experience blogging it wouldn´t be a good idea to dive into such a competitive industry/market.

Yes!

Same reasoning as above.

If this is your first experience blogging and you have no prior knowledge, certifications, experience in weight loss I highly advise you against developing a blog around such a broad topic.

If you still want to pursue it, I advise you to narrow down your target audience even further.

Sometimes, it´s not so much about narrowing down the niche but approaching for a different perspective or angle.

Take a look at these niche examples...

I played a bit with "related term" tabs applying some filters to check the content potential around this topic and look what Ahrefs have to show...

Let´s take the "lunch ideas for picky eaters" keyword which shows a KD of 28 and an average monthly search volume of 1.4k...

It still shows a pretty decent level of competition but, in comparison to the "niche" you proposed, I like my chances ranking on this niche for sure.

Don´t stress yourself too much and take as much time as needed. Picking the right niche is perhaps the single most important aspect of successfully launching a blogging business.

You don´t want to find yourself 6 or 9 months from now realizing you made a mistake.

Do your own research, spend some time in online communities build around niches you have a personal interest in or are passionate about, brainstorm ideas as many ideas as possible, break down and analyze the SERP to check, not only what Google is "rewarding" with the top organic positions but also the competition.

I hope this helps.

Cheers and stay safe!
You nailed it! OP, stick to this advice

There's high competition in that niche, but it does not mean that you cannot succeed with it. Find your unique methods to get traffic.
