[Journey] Cryptocurrency Trading & Mining Sidehustle - Sharing My Journey

I have worked full-time since my teens. I'm now 50 and have completed my doctorate. With no more school to get in my way, I'm slowly building up side-hustles that can either make me money from home or completely passive income.

Blogging for Income

I shared my three-year journey building blogs for income here:

One blog makes me a nice $5,000/year hands-free now. I did that while working full time and built the blogs in my spare time.

Selling Real Estate for Income

Then I took a real estate class and became a licensed Realtor at the end of 2020. I made over $60,000 in 2021 selling real estate on the side. I didn't make the goal of six figures, but I will in 2022.

Other side-hustles include renting my camper on RVTrader, guest speaker at conferences, teaching online classes, and an active YouTube channel.

Cryptocurrency Trading and Mining for Income

Now I'm diving into crypto, both learning the best methods to mine it from my desktop and dedicated miners to day trading on the internet.

I like to teach others and share experiences so these journey threads appeal to my creative side. But given how much time they take, I wanted to see if there was enough interest out there.

Thanks for the compliment and feedback. I'm really enjoying learning about it so far. I'm even starting to make some money trading. My simple desktop computer has mined $12 of ETH in January so far. I'm mean, it's not gold bricks...but for a computer that's just sitting here and I don't have to do anything...if it makes $50/mo of Ethereum...I'm down. I'm using CudoMiner on that one.

That's a great question. I like the idea of mining Helium (HNT) but that is a dedicated miner. Meaning if the Helium system ever goes offline, out of business etc, that miner might not be good for anything else. I like the idea of mining coin for the sake of coin and not in any particular system. So I'm still trying to figure that out.

With my desktop, I'm mining ETH and Minero. Started around Dec 28th and have about $15 mined so far:



What I like about Cudo is the ease of use. Download and run and you are ready to mine. Plus you can access your other systems from the control panel.



For now, I'm looking at mining $30/mo in ETH but I have been slowly optimizing my rigs. It isn't going to make me rich by any means. But one thing I noticed is that I can set up this Cudo Miner on any computer, set it to run on startup, set it to disable when in use...and basically have a miner running when the computer is on but not in use and it won't be bothering anyone while they are actually using this computer.

So extrapolate that out: my daughters have computers at college, my wife's is already mining, my parents, etc. Anyone with a beefy enough system can have this downloaded and run in the background.

I can see why the hackers created viruses that infect systems and turn them into remote miners. It's all about the numbers at this point.

On the trading front, KuCoin has been the best interface I've played with so far. Coinbase feels solid but charges WAY too much for trading. I moved everything over to KuCoin for now. One negative is that not ALL coins are accessible on all platforms. I would need Binance to trade some coins but Binance is not allowed to operate in my state of Idaho. So I can't even sign up with Binance.

I have trades lined up with Sell Limits on seven coins at this point. Looking forward to seeing how my strategy plays out over the next few days:

Down about $200 on my $2000 portfolio at this point, mostly on APL. Sometimes I make money within hours. Other times it takes 3-5 days. I don't really play a long game, per se.

This is nice i am also trading using pancakeswap just trading the nft games token they are pump and dump tokens

You already know that when "The Merge" happens in June, ALL ETH MINING STOPS, so you should
think about what you are going to do then. Don't invest money in GPUs. They will be dirt cheap on eBay
starting in April or May. All GPU mining after that will pay alot less than Eth.

You should consider "yield farming" that $5K a month you get from that blog.


You might also consider buying a few assets and staking them to make yield on Star Atlas, a video game.

Buy a few space ships and stake them. The return these days is around 100% APR.

Stay away from "art" NFTs that I still can't figure out why anyone wants them.

I think the video games (if interesting) will continue to increase.
