[Journey] Niche blogging using Income School Concepts

Thanks. I think I lucked out quite a bit by choosing an underserved niche that I have a lot of experience with for this blog. My second niche blog hasn't gone real well but it's got more competition, less search volume and it's just harder to stand out. With the blog this thread is about, I can run "experiments" and share results, while my competitors are often just doing a 'well sometimes X is best, sometimes Y' type of thing. So basically I can make better, more original content. On my 2nd niche blog, i's a dog-breed specific blog, so the topic just doesn't lend itself to that. I think the most original I could really get would be interviewing veterinarians who have a lot of experience with the breed, and/or respected breeders, maybe. Which aren't bad ideas but I have social anxiety so I'm not real eager to do things like that when the blog is getting like 100 pageviews a month, haha.

Total # of blog posts published: 96
Total pageviews: 70,216
Total sessions: 44,251



My traffic acquisition breakdown is 45.7% organic search, 33.6% social, 19.9% direct, .05% referral, .03% other.
Of my social traffic, 96.1% is pinterest, 2.5% is reddit, 1.1% facebook.

My search traffic got a bit of a increase starting 4/24, fingers crossed that it'll stick around.

A note on my adsense earnings...in late March I added on video ads using my own videos. I knew I was going to start making more videos and tiktoks/reels so I thought why not utilize them as ads, too? At first I only had three or four videos to add, but I've since made a handful more ad keep adding them to my adthrive video list when I make new videos. This has significantly improved my earnings through adthrive, here is the breakdown of my earnings with adthrive...over $400 a month from the ads in my videos. So if you're with adthrive and not currently utilizing video...in my opinion it's worth making videos even if just for your ads.


Social media.
A key part of the income school method is focusing on content rather than promotion of your content. I've always focused a little bit of time on Pinterest, as I knew from my experience with other blogs that it's worth the time to put into pinterest. But up until recently I was putting very minimal effort into other socal medias. For FB and twitter I would basically just do a title or mini summary of the post and then paste the link once and that was it. For instagram I was doing original content on there but very rarely like maybe once a month. I've always bee somewhat active on reddit but ot really with the intention of helping my blog, I just enjoy the subreddit for the topic my blog is on.

The last couple of months I have been making tikoks that I am also using as reels on FB and instagram, and I'm uploadig them as youtube shorts as well. I'm also making youtube videos.

On top of that, I decided to try putting a little more effort into social media. I have given myself weekly tasks for commenting on a couple of youtube videos, instagram posts and tiktoks for my niche. It's still pretty minimal time, but I am trying to make my social accounts to look 'dead' basically.

Video content:
To date I've posted 6 tiktoks. Two of them were over 1 minute so they were only posted to tiktok. The others were under 1 minute so I also shared them to instagram, FB and youtube.
My first 2 tiktoks barely got seen, but my 3rd-6h tiktoks all have at least 1300 views.
I have 3 youtube videos to date (not counting YT-shorts). Oe was published in 2021, one was published in march and one in april. The one from 2021 I embedded into a blog post, but it has 3k views. The other two videos have had less than 50 views each.

Socal following:
YT subscribers - 43
FB page "likes" aka followers - 235
Twitter followers - 25
Insta followers - 218
Pinterest followers - 800 followers
Tiktok followers - 38. 10 or so of these are friends/family. I think my personal facebook is accidentally linked or something, because cousins and stuff started following me randomly.


Plans/goals for May include...
Researching youtube SEO.
Publishing 3-4 new blog posts.
Making 2 new YT videos.
Making 2 new tiktoks/reels/shorts.
Hopefully having my boyfriend fix my desktop core web vitals. My mobile core web vitals are 100% and most of my traffic is mobile, but my desktop score is 0% good, 100% of my desktop pages are "needing improvement" as of 3/26 which is the day after I turned on video ads via adthrive...so I assume it's related to that. Very annoying, but on different blogs I've seen my stats increase when my page experience is fixed.

Thank you for a detailed report! With the video ads with Adthrive, currently you do not have to make videos on your own to benefit from the higher RPM video ads bring.

For a few months there's a new ad type available, called "Sticky Outstream", which basically plays video ads on the page (basically the same ads that are shown before your video, just this time around it is just ads).

In your earnings it really is a small part of an income, which I believe is because you have your own videos, so the ad slot is called differently, or it doesn't show at all when your own videos do... Check my distribution for April:

Ohh okay, good to know!
I use pictures of myself in all of my blog posts and my videos feature me as well. So even if someone is brand new to my site, if they see a picture of me within the post and then the video player is clearly a video of the same person, they should recognize that the video is content from me as well, so perhaps that's why my videos do a lot better than the outstream does for me. But it's cool that people can benefit from the video ads if they don't have their own video conent.

Your numbers are awesome! Do you have a journey thread on BHW?

I think it works this way: The outstream player shows only on pages of your website where you do not show any videos, or, for some reasons (such as browser settings etc) they simply won't show, and so Adthrive shows this ad instead.

Considering your RPM for other ad types, there's no way you'd earn only $3 from outstream player ad if it showed on all or many pages of your blog.
