When I use ahrefs I target keywords with at least 50 searches and low KD (less than 1 or 2). I only like Ahrefs because it analyses a ton of keywords in a matter of seconds, I don't think it's the best way to do keyword research.Thank you for responding. One last question:
You mentioned above that you use Ahrefs to measure the amount of monthly keyword clicks/searches (although perhaps it is inaccurate). Even keywords with only 10 clicks a month.
For you, what is the average monthly volume for a promising keyword with low competition?
You try keywords with, a maximum, of how much monthly volume (according to Ahrefs) ?

I think the best way to find low competition keywords is to use google auto-suggest. This way you can also get a first impression of how many searches the query gets. (searches with more volume show up first) If there are forums like quora showing up they also often show you how many views this question has, so that's a good indication too.
