We've seen some services like social network Google+ getting shut down after 11 years of being live.

Blogger was launched in 1999, been up for 22 years now. Direct competition to Wordpress.
Seen some of you comment how it's only a matter of time when Google pulls the plug on it.

In your opinion, when will Blogger.com get cancelled & exactly why do you believe that?

It costs 8.xx$/y for them without coupon (or may be just the icann fee since they are a registrar too now a days). I don’t think blogger will ever be dropped. It’s too big to just drop/discontinue.

Maybe within this decade or two provided more and more people stop using blogger.

A company will shut down it's service when it stops making them money. Google acquired blogger from Pyra Labs back in 2003. They acquired it believing people would monetise their content with AdSense (which also started in 2003) which would make money for Google.

when expenses for maintaining Blogger becomes more than it earns by AdSense monetised sites, google will stop it.

And it doesn't look too far for that to happen. When was the last time when you heard someone starting a blogger website?

I don't see it happening soon because they just recently changed the interface in blogspot.

Despite there are better options in expressng yourself online
I doubt think Blogger will be gone anytime soon, transformed or upgraded or even merged into google sites even maybe but currently that's not their focus at all

Similarly to what they did with google chat, meet and duo

I thought as much.

Just as many other bloggers, Blogspot helped me in my early days of blogging.

Spending just $8 per year on domain name while they have your blog hosted for free is a steal. Also I have seen many bloggers who are successful 4-5 figures monthly tho they later moved to WordPress (because their WP blog now pays for itself and out doe on their table).

Both also require a shit load of work but WP offers more functionalities.

It is common to see the transition from Blogspot to WordPress after 2-5 years of blogging, among many bloggers. Makes sense.

You can use blogspot when you are just starting your blog. I don't advice using blogspot for big and established blog that get big traffic.

I voted a few months, but its dead already. Google created Blogger, Google+ etc to dodge anti trust law.
Same with Facebook, it created metaverse for same reason.

Doesn't really matter if they close it or not.

How many people are using it?

Only newbies who post questions like - 'Wordpress or Blogger?'

Pros have already abandoned the platform.

It's not about how many people are using it now. It's about how many blogger websites still get views and are monetised.

Blogger sites can stay up as long as google wants. I have seen blogspot pages that still rank for some very obscure keywords. The owner of these pages have abandoned this site long ago, but they forgot to delete their content.

Pages like this still get views and make money for Google. And as long as the cost of keeping these pages up isn't more than they are making, google will keep blogger alive.

I started with blogger. I still have 3 bkogspot sites that i keep active and update regularly.

I hope they dont close blogger. Its a nice platform, lotsa history.
Don't trust them. Google loves killing their products, so much that there's an entire website about it.

Atleast export your content out and throw it on some static host like Netlify. They host small static sites for free.

We may not hear about it in our sphere, but I see people starting Bloggers all the time.

At least once a week I see a 50k Twitter persona announce their new Blogger.

People that have been using Blogger for years will continue to use it because they don't want to move to another platform.

Google will keep Blogger around for a long time, even if it doesn't make money for them. In Google's eyes, it costs $0 to keep running.

I backup my blogs regularly, wont ever lose the content.

I dont trrust them, of course it can happen. But these 3 little blogs i have arent really making money, so theyre not very important. Let them be where they're at :)
